This piece exists in the quiet void before waking, when the dream is still warm but unraveling. I create from that moment. The soft collapse of memory, the lingering pulse of something I almost understood.

Each stroke guided by a feeling. Sight comes after. Color becomes instinct, texture becomes breath, movement becomes the language that remembers. I watch the face emerge from the forgotten nothing.

There’s a familiarity to it. A sense that I’ve seen this expression before, or lived it, or lost it. But dreams never return the same way twice.

This face isn’t a portrait. It’s a memory of presence. A flicker in grey matter before the morning light erases it.

What remains is the echo.

Momentarily recognizable, already disappearing.

This piece was originally created for a Museum Exhibition at the La Quinta Museum in La Quinta, CA. The exhibition theme and title was In Your Dreams.
