 Ray Taylor: Artist, Filmmaker, Storyteller

Faces from the edge of dreams. Stories from the edges of life.

Ray Taylor is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Coachella Valley, known for his ongoing series The Many Faces, a body of work born from the liminal space between dreaming and waking. His paintings explore memory, identity, emotional resonance, and the moments we almost understand.

Alongside his fine art practice, Ray is the creator of The Ray Taylor Show, a long-running multimedia project spanning film/TV reviews, current events, and storytelling. His website, InspiredDisorder.com, hosts a rich catalog of paintings, limited prints, behind-the-scenes process videos, and creative journals chronicling his return to art after a two-year hiatus.

Ray’s work is intimate, instinct-driven, and deeply human.

 Artist Statement

My work lives in the quiet space outside human consciousness. The Many Faces began as an attempt to capture that fleeting presence, the pulse of something half-remembered. What emerges on the canvas isn’t a portrait but a presence: a flicker of emotion, a shadow of recognition, a moment of truth that disappears the instant you try to define it.

I paint instinctively. Texture becomes breath, movement becomes language, and color (even through colorblind eyes) becomes a feeling more than a choice. I don’t sketch or plan. I let the face reveal itself through layers of motion and intuition. Each piece is an echo, a fragment from somewhere internal, subconscious, or past-life familiar.

My current work explores the boundaries between the seen and unseen: the dreams that follow us into the day, the emotions we bury, the inner stories that shape our identity. I’m fascinated by the way the mind holds on to traces of memory—recognizable, yet impossible to fully retrieve. That tension is where my art lives.

I create because these moments feel worth preserving. Because even a disappearing memory deserves to be seen before it fades.

2025–2026 — In Your Dreams, La Quinta Museum — La Quinta, CA

Museum exhibition featuring original work created specifically for the theme In Your Dreams.
A curated group show showcasing the depth, imagination, and subconscious expression of local artists.

2023–2024 — Desert Views, La Quinta Museum — La Quinta, CA

Museum exhibition featuring works inspired by the landscapes, light, and atmosphere of the Coachella Valley.

2023 — Summertime Art Show, Flat Black Gallery — Palm Desert, CA

Group exhibition featuring over 20 local artists across a wide range of contemporary styles.

2018–2024 — The Many Faces: Daily Painting Project, InspiredDisorder.com

A multi-year independent exhibition of over 2,000 original ink faces.
Each piece includes a recorded process video, forming an expansive visual archive of Ray’s evolving artistic language.

2023 — 111 Night Market — Palm Desert, CA

Monthly outdoor art and vendor fair. Showcased original work to the local community and visitors.

2023 — Love Local — Indian Wells, CA

Monthly pop-up street fair featuring local artists, makers, and small businesses.

2012–2014 — Ray @ Night — North Park, San Diego, CA

Monthly arts district event featuring rotating exhibitions across Ray Street. Participating as a showcasing artist.

2007–2008 — More Super Events — San Diego, CA

A series of art events hosted at various venues throughout San Diego. Featured original artwork and live creative experiences.

2006–2007 — The Ally Gallery (Online)

A flash-animated online gallery created and curated by Ray Taylor.
Featured and promoted new independent artists each month — one of the earliest digital gallery spaces dedicated to spotlighting emerging creators.

2004–2009 — daDA04.net (Digital Art Design Associates)

Ray’s first art-focused website and creative business, presenting surreal digital artwork, graphic design, and experimental visual projects inspired by the Dada movement.
An early foundation of Ray’s long-term commitment to independent digital art.

 

PODCASTING & MULTIMEDIA PROJECTS

2018–2024 — The Ray Taylor Show

A long-running multimedia project featuring daily film reviews, storytelling, personal commentary, and video content across YouTube and podcast platforms.
Over 2,000 episodes published.

2009–2018 — Inspired Disorder Podcast

A comedy and long-form conversation podcast hosted by Ray, with recurring cohosts Derik Helmer, Justin King, and Keith Spurlock.
Included interviews with comedians, actors, musicians, artists, and everyday people.
Released in both audio and video formats with livestream episodes.

2010–2015 — Inspired Disorder Collective

Independent podcast collective featuring over 20 shows across 6 countries.
Ray hosted, curated, and managed the collective’s podcast feed and promotional website, supporting creators worldwide.

2012–2014 — 24 Hour Podcast (Two Episodes)

A pair of 24-hour livestream charity events hosted and produced by Ray to raise money for members of the Inspired Disorder Collective.
Included special guests, call-ins, and live interactive segments.

2011–2018 — Additional Podcasts (Various Formats)

Created and produced numerous podcast series, including:
Shit Happens, Beyond Disorder, 2 Dudes 1 Brain, Words, Rayz Reactions, InspiredReco, Dancing Elephants, IDP in 360, Ultimate Movie Championship, Early Retirement, Ray Loves Movies.
Spanning film, comedy, interviews, storytelling, personal commentary, and experimental formats.

2007–2008 — Billy Dalla$$ Show

Ray’s first podcast — a comedic video/audio project following fictional host Billy Dalass, who moves to Los Angeles to become a roadie for the hip hop group Atmosphere, only to discover they’re actually in Minnesota.
Centered on film reviews, internet culture, and early online performance art.
