Story 1 (00:03:10): A robocall obtained by Tennessee Holler has raised questions and made false allegations about what happened inside the Tennessee Capitol on March 30. The call was allegedly produced by Enlight Tennessee, a conservative advocacy group. The automated voice called for the expulsion of three state representatives and accused them of being "radical activists." However, the Tennessee Highway Patrol denied any reports of angry mobs or confiscation of pipe bombs or brass knuckles at the Capitol that day. Learn more about this controversial robocall in this news report.

Story 2 (00:22:03): The Missouri House has voted against a proposal to ban minors from openly carrying firearms on public land without adult supervision. The measure failed by a 104-39 vote, with only one Republican supporting it. Democratic Rep. Donna Baringer explained that police had requested the change to prevent children from walking around with firearms in public areas. However, Republicans argued that the ban would infringe on gun rights and that it was not appropriate to charge people with crimes based on assumptions. The measure was part of an ongoing debate on the best ways to fight crime in St. Louis.

Story 3 (00:35:27): During the protests of 2020, Portland police used tear gas at harmful levels. A new study by Forensic Architecture reveals the amount of tear gas that was deployed during the infamous "Tear Gas Tuesday" of June 2, 2020. In this video, we take a closer look at the study's findings and the impact of tear gas on the protesters and residents of Portland.

Story 1 (00:01:15): The North Dakota Senate has rejected a bill to provide free school lunches for students from low-income families. Instead, they have increased meal budgets for state employees, including themselves. The bill would have provided free lunches for students from families at 200 percent of the federal poverty level. The rejected bill would have cost $6 million for two years. In contrast, the meal budget increase for state employees will cost $1 million over two years. Watch this news update to learn more about this controversial decision.

Story 2 (00:17:21): An explosion and fire at the South Fork Dairy Farm in Dimmitt, Texas, resulted in the loss of around 18,000 cattle, making it the deadliest barn fire for cattle in Texas history. In addition, one employee was left in critical condition. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Learn more about this tragic event in this news report.

Story 3 (00:27:12): HBO Max has announced a new Harry Potter TV series that will be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved best-selling fantasy novels. The ambitious 10-year series plan will remake the books with a new cast and include far more detail from the seven novels. However, the author's involvement in the series as an executive producer has caused controversy due to her opinions expressed about the trans community. In this video, we'll discuss the reactions of media professionals and fans to the news, and what impact it could have on the series.

Story 1 (00:01:26): Tennessee's House Republicans have expelled two black Democratic lawmakers who participated in a protest calling for more gun control after a deadly school shooting in Nashville. Another Democratic representative, who is white, narrowly escaped expulsion. The move has sparked accusations of racism, with protesters calling out "Shame!" and "Fascists!" from the visitors' gallery. This video explains what happened, what the lawmakers' intentions were, and the controversy surrounding their expulsion.

Story 2 (00:12:47): Doctors at Apollo Multispecialty Hospitals in Kolkata, India have reported the first known case of a human being infected by a plant fungus called Chondrostereum purpureum. The patient, a plant mycologist, made a full recovery and has not experienced any recurrence of the infection after two years of follow-up observations. However, this “first of its kind” case study exemplifies the risks that fungal pathogens pose for humans, especially now that climate change and other human activities like rampant urbanization have opened a “Pandora’s Box for newer fungal diseases” by contributing to their spread. Learn more about the potential of environmental plant fungi to cause disease in humans and the importance of molecular techniques to identify the causative fungal species.

Story 3 (00:21:35): Joanne Marian Segovia, the Executive Director of the San Jose Police Officers’ Association, has been charged with attempting to illegally import a controlled substance in connection with a scheme to distribute synthetic opioids throughout the United States. The criminal complaint alleges that Segovia used her personal and office computers to order thousands of opioid and other pills to her home and agreed to distribute the drugs elsewhere in the United States. The complaint also alleges that Segovia used encrypted WhatsApp communications to plan the logistics for receiving and sending pill shipments. If convicted, Segovia faces a maximum statutory sentence of 20 years.

Story 1 (00:01:13): French citizens take to the streets to protest against the government's unpopular pension reforms. Many thousands march, and the Eiffel Tower has been closed as police have ramped up security measures. President Emmanuel Macron's changes to France's retirement system have triggered months of upheaval and fresh union pleas to pause the hotly contested push to raise the legal retirement age from 62 to 64 have gone unheard. Violence has flared, and thousands of tons of garbage have piled up on Paris' streets as sanitation workers strike. The French government is unfurling massively ramped-up security measures for a fresh blast of marches and strikes against unpopular pension reforms.

Story 2 (00:13:06): The proposed RESTRICT Act might ban not only TikTok but also other apps and services with connections to foreign countries. Digital rights experts are worried about the bill's "insanely broad" language and the possible implications for First Amendment rights. The act targets any technology linked to a "foreign adversary," including China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and Venezuela, and includes vague terms such as "desktop applications," "mobile applications," "gaming applications," "payment applications," and "web-based applications." The bill's critics believe it could lead to the banning of VPNs and other privacy and security tools. Learn more about the RESTRICT Act in this video.

Story 3 (00:31:36): Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury, the first against a former president. The charges stem from payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter. Trump is expected to surrender early next week. Learn more about this historic reckoning and its implications for the national presidential race.

Story 1 (00:01:10): Richard Golden, a mid-30s 4Chan user living with his mother, was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood. Chitwood had recently gone viral for a passionate rant against neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups in Florida. Golden's IP address was flagged by authorities after he posted a threatening message on 4Chan. In this video, we discuss the details of the case and the larger issues of online threats and hate speech.

Story 2 (00:11:04): OpenAI research reveals that up to 80% of US workers may see their jobs impacted by GPTs. The study shows that some jobs, such as mathematicians, tax preparers, writers, and legal secretaries, will be more impacted than others, while occupations requiring science and critical thinking skills are less likely to be affected. Google and Microsoft have already announced that they would incorporate AI in their office products. In this video, we discuss the implications of GPTs and how they will shape the future of work.

Story 3 (00:28:12): The Los Angeles Unified School District and Local 99 of the Service Employees International Union have reached a tentative agreement after a massive strike that lasted several days. The agreement provides raises of about 30% or more for the lowest-wage workers over time, affected by the length of service and current salary. Some workers will receive less than 30% and some more. The deal, which is not yet official and must be approved by union members, is not an across-the-board increase but spread out over time. If approved, the agreement could prevent campuses from being closed again for 420,000 students and spare workers from difficult job actions. The agreement reflects a broader context of the problems affecting working-class families and the importance of unions for working-class people. Unions allow workers to negotiate better wages, benefits, and working conditions than they could as individuals. They also help protect workers from arbitrary termination or layoffs, enforce workplace safety regulations, provide training and education opportunities, and ensure that all workers are treated fairly and equally. Unionized workers often receive better health care, retirement, and other benefits than non-unionized workers, and report higher job satisfaction and better morale.

Story 2 (00:12:19): Between 1950 and 2002, a study found that nearly 4,000 children were victims of sexual abuse by Catholic clergy, with over 1,000 abused in Pennsylvania alone. In this video, we explore the history of child sexual abuse by Roman Catholic priests and the scandal that rocked the US and the Catholic Church. Discover the shocking facts and figures, including financial settlements exceeding $3 billion and the bankruptcy of eight Catholic dioceses. Learn how church officials followed a "playbook for concealing the truth" and minimized the abuse by using words like "inappropriate contact" instead of "rape." Find out how the revelations led to a "zero tolerance" policy and the largest settlement by any US Catholic diocese in bankruptcy.

Story 3 (00:27:59): Elon Musk is making headlines again, this time for reportedly building a town in Texas for SpaceX and The Boring Company staff to work and live in. Dubbed "Snailbrook," the town is set to feature prefabricated homes, a pool, sports area, gym, and even a potential school. Musk has said he plans to offer the houses at cheaper prices to provide affordable housing for his employees. But as we look at the history of company towns, with the infamous example of Pullman, Illinois, we can't help but wonder: will Musk's vision for a Texas utopia face similar challenges?
